Virginia Munday is a dancer, choreographer and educator based in Silicon Valley. After growing up in Florida and attending Harrison School for the Visual and Performing Arts, she received her BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. While in Illinois she worked with Sara Hook, Linda Lehovec, Michelle Boule, Philip Johnston, Rebecca Netl-Fiol and Kate Kupers. Virginia spent her summers training at the Cecchetti Council of America Summer Program, the Juilliard Summer School, Virginia School for the Arts, Bates Dance Festival, and the American Dance Festival. After graduation she dance in New York and performed with Kim Young, Kelly Knox, Candace Dubous, Valerie Green Dance Entropy, and Jennifer Schmermund/Fresh Blood Productions.

Virginia went on to earn her MFA in Choreography, with Distinction, at Roehampton University of London in 2012. While in the program she studied with Erica Stanton, Stephanie Jordan, Simon Ellis, Lalitaraja Joachim Chandler, Ann David, and Sarah Huston. While at Roehampton Virginia met collaborator and dance artist Tiffany Gibson, and they joined forces. The duo presented their work at Roehampton University, Dance4 Nottingham and The Place, London.  Their work was selected to be part of the Resolution! and Evolution! series and the duo were invited to be part of the Touch Wood platform. The Place artist development also invited them to workshops with Graeme Miller, Peggy Olislaegers, and Chris Haring/Liquid Loft. Virginia continues to make work for her students and herself sharing her work in the US and UK.

Virginia enjoys sharing her passion for dance with students of all ages and. She is currently an Academic Adjunct Lecturer in Dance at Santa Clara University.  Her teaching credits include appointments at San Jose City, Foothill, West Valley, Roehampton University Dance Society, and Cabrillo Colleges. She has been a guest choreographer and teacher at Yerba Buena High School, Bayer Ballet Academy, Harrison Arts Center, Rochelle School of the Arts, and Hillsborough Community College. As a teaching artist with Joe Goode Performance Group in San Francisco, Virginia shares creative practices with K-12 school students around the Bay area. Virginia is the past Secretary (2017-2019) and current member of the California Dance Education Association, an organization that advocates for dance and dance educators across the state of California.

 

Virginia is currently studying to become a Somatic Movement Educator in Body Mind Centering at Moving Within in Lorane, OR. She uses this current training and her interests in Laban Movement Analysis, Bartinieff Fundamentals, and Alexander Technique to infuse her dance technique classes with these somatic influences.  These studies deeply influences her teaching practice and choreographic work.
